Here's how it works: This week's theme is "emotions" I'll ask for four videos that pertain to that theme:
- A song that makes you happy
- A song that makes you sad
- A song that makes you excited
- A song that makes you embarrassed
1. A song that makes you feel happy, glad, joyous, etc:
My pick is: Concerning Hobbits, from The Fellowship of the Ring. I mean, come on. How could this theme not make you happy. I actually would've picked Made to Love You by TobyMac, but I just posted that the other day.
2. A song that makes you feel sad, depressed, low, etc:
My pick is: The Great Jedi Purge from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. I would post Gandalf has Fallen, but I already know that at least one of my readers will pick that.
3: A song that makes you feel excited, energetic, aroused, etc:
My pick is: The music from the "Base" map in the game Raze.
There are other songs that do a better job at making me feel this way, but I've already posted most of them, and I don't want to have too many repeats so close together.
4. A song that makes you embarrassed... you're embarrassed that you listen to it, you're embarrassed that you like it, and you would be embarrassed listening to it around your friends, etc.
This is... a tough one... my pick is: Lights by Ellie Goulding. I draw particular embarrassment from the fact that I actually like Ellie Goulding's music. I'm not into pop, but her voice... I really like it. For some reason. I think it's the British accent. ANYWAY.
Well, what are you waiting for? Submit your picks!
I'm guessing that by "song", you don't mean just ones with actual words being sung.... Even so, I'm going to put down actual songs for this list. :-)
ReplyDelete1- A song that makes you happy: That would be "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. I don't like it now as much as I did when I fist heard it, but it's still a good song. Not to mention it was the first song (other than from tLotR) to make me cry from happiness- that might have to do with why I still listen to it from time to time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7seRIJAtjlA
2- A song that makes you sad: Ha! 2 TS songs in a row, oh well. "Ronan" by TS also has a special spot in my heart. It's literally impossible for me to listen to this and NOT tear up. (if not out and out cry- especially when I watch this live performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvN7BOAQn9I) "Ronan" was inspired by a little boy that died from cancer. :'-(
3- A song that makes you exited: First song that pops into my mind is "Wings" by Little Mix. Not particularly rich in the lyrical department (then again, this is pop...) but it's got a good beat and certainly gets you exited. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR26oxIoz68 Oh, "Salute" is another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_espODnFRjo
4- A song that makes you embarrassed: Let's see..... oh, yeah! So, I'm not embarrassed about it myself, but everyone that knows me is probably ashamed that they hang out with someone that likes One Direction. Now, now, before you write me off as some crazy fangirl, hear me out. No, I don't think they're the best singers ever. (In fact, they could use some singing lessons, but that's beside the point) No, they don't have the best lyrics. (pretty much all of it is pop fluff), but they do have somewhat nice voices, and some of their sons are nice to listen to. That's all. A few that I like are "Everything About You", "Moments", "Through The Dark", and "Story of My Life". I won't bother posting links to them, since it's very very unlikely that anyone here will want to listen to them. :-P
I had actually thought about that (using the word "song"), and once again made the mistake of thinking that none of my friends were pedantic enough to bring it up. ;) I wasn't sure what to say other than "song" though... I wasn't gonna say "Post a music!" I'm curious as to what you think I should say, because honestly, I'm not sure what other word to use.
DeleteWow. Some very... interesting picks. Haha! ;D
Taylor Swift and I have an... understanding. She leaves me alone, and I leave her alone. JK. My older bro and one of my best friends both like her music a lot (or used to), and so I've been exposed to her a lot. Some of her songs are catchy and have touching lyrics (like the one you posted), but after hearing a lot of her songs, one can't help but feel that she uses and discards boys like kleenexes or something. And that just colors all of her music for me.
"Wings" was pretty good. It upped my heart rate; I liked it. But the whole "Don't care what other people say/think about you" thing always makes me wince, no matter where I see it. Because if we're representing Christ, then we should care what people are seeing in us.
ONE DIRECTION??? Well, this is the end of our friendship! JK JK JK. I... a guilty... of getting some of their songs stuck in my head. No thanks to whoever controls the radio dial at McDonald's. But yeah, don't worry, we won't shun you. We'll just say mean things about you behind your back. Just kidding, we will shun you. Okay okay, we won't. And that was wise, not posting any links... ;)
Interesting picks, though! I didn't think of you as much of pop person.
I know what you mean, I guess "a musical piece" would've worked?
DeleteHonestly, I don't particularly like her more recent music, but her older music is pretty good. I don't think she uses guys for her music... I'm pretty sure I've heard that most of her songs are inspired by other couples, and not from her own experiences. I really respect her for not saying who her songs are about, it must be so hard to not say anything when everyone's always asking you. :-)
I usually avoid songs like that, but in this case, they're talking about people who hate on them for no reason (I think of when they were on X-Factor, and Jesy was getting tons of hate and cyber-bullying for being "fat".)
Haha, I notice you didn't comment about "Salute". Tell me, what did you think of it?
One thing they're good at is creating hits, that's for sure. Haha, I thought you'd react that way! :-D And, for future reference, if someone's going to say mean things about me, I'd prefer it be to my face, not behind my back. :-P
Haha, thanks, Payton's not the only one that's got lots of different sides! :-P I don't think much of most pop (most of it is absolutely terrible), but I do like some of it, and I'm not ashamed of what I do like. :-) Some of Demi Lovato's new album is really good- "Nightingale", and "Warrior" are my favorites.
I've tried using that term a few times in some of my other posts, and it just seems really clunky.
DeleteI haven't heard more of her recent music (for good reason). Oh, wow. Thanks for cleaning that up for me. I assumed that most of her songs were from her life... in which case, she could probably break records for how many people she's broken up with. JK.
Interesting, I did not know that about them. Honestly, I hadn't even heard of them until you mentioned them.
... I didn't listen to"Salute". I guess I have to, now.
*Takes notes* Say... it... to... her... face. Okay, got it. Thanks.
You must tell me about Payton's other sides...
Yeah, I know what you mean. I barely like any pop, but some of it... is embarrassing. Seriously, what's your opinion on me liking Ellie Goulding's music?
Demi Lovato? Never heard of her.
Yeah, if that were the case, I wouldn't listen to her music no matter how good it was. Usually I can ignore the person who created the thing I like, but sometimes it's just too much to ignore.
DeleteI found out about them a while back, but I think they're still pretty small in the U.S. I like how ALL of them are actually really talented singers, it seems that in most groups, there are 1 or 2 really good singers and the others are just extras.
Haha, yeah. I'm curious as to what you'll think of it...
Yup. I can handle pretty much anything if it's said to my face, but people talking behind my back is whole different beast. It gets under my skin like nothing else.
Nope, you'll just have to find out all about her yourself, it's more fun that way. :-P And, for the record, there's always more to be surprised at when it comes to Payton. I'm still finding out things about her that I wouldn't expect from her!
I've never heard any of her music (other than this) so I can't say, but she seems to have a nice voice. I don't particularly like it, but there's nothing embarrassing about liking some pop music. BE BRAVE, JONNY! :-D
She has a really strong voice, and has a more rock-ish pop sound. I don't like most of her stuff, but what I do like, I like a lot.
Salute was... interesting. Not bad, certainly catchy. But "women pride" kind of things bug me. I mean, if a similar song was made for guys, then it would be seen as sexist. Just saying. I do think it's a pretty cool song though.
DeleteOkay, noted. If ever insult you, you'll be the first to know! I can relate, though.
Okay, I will do that. She is quite an interesting character, though I'm sure that's partly because of you.
"I Need Your Love" is another one of her songs which I listen to... but it's even more embarrassing than "Lights", because unlike "Lights", it actually has a clear meaning...
*starts being brave*
I'll check out those songs you recommended.
Yeah, most people would probably see it that way, but that kind of thing doesn't bother me. :-) The speaking part at the end of "Salute" is a little strange for me, but it's at the end, so I can skip that part without really missing any of the song.
DeleteThanks, I appreciate that.
She and I contrast and (hopefully! haha) compliment each other- I think that's why we're such good friends. I'm never bored when I'm with her, and that's a mark of the best kind of friendship, isn't it?
You're doing great, Jonny! The next step is admitting it to someone in person. Are you ready for that? ;-D
In that case, brace yourself for my upcoming parody...
DeleteYeah, I couldn't quite catch those words, but I was semi-bothered by what I heard. But, since I couldn't make it all out, I decided not to pass judgement.
Any time!
You "compliment" each other wonderfully, if by "compliment" you mean "I drive Payton crazy and manipulate her." JK! But you two do make quite the duo.
I have admitted it to people in person. All of my siblings know... NO! I'M NOT READYYYY!!! DON'T MAKE ME TELL ANYONE ELSE! *sobs* It's too much!
Ha! That should be good. :-D
DeleteYup, how did you that was what I meant? Haha, to be fair, though, she lets me. Not that she has any other choice... ;-P
Siblings don't count, not for something like this. Hahaha! My advice to you now, is to think deep and hard about WHY you're ashamed of it. WHY you don't want other to know. WHY you still like it. Ponder these things, my child, and when you have peace in your own mind, THEN, and only then, shall you be ready to share your love with the world. *thoughtfully nods*
Ha, I've known you and Payton long enough to be able to translate certain terms. ;)
DeleteYes, Sensei. I shall ponder long upon your wise teachings. *bows*
Yeah.... That part of our friendship is probably blatantly obvious... :-P
DeleteGood, good. Go now, and complete your task. And when you have mastered your thoughts, come to me, young one. I have much more to teach you.
Yeah, didn't take me long to figure that out.
DeleteYes, sensei.
Here are my picks... http://thepianist98.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/musical-monday-challenge/
ReplyDeleteannoyingly only a couple of them loaded properly, but there are url links for the others... I hope that's not a problem!!
Done! I've posted here:
ReplyDeletehttp://elliectricjukebox.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/music-challenge-from-musicalvinist/
I also used "pieces of music", which was almost accident.
Anyway, I liked the stuff you chose, Jonny. I haven't listened to the last one yet, but I'm in a library, I can't really.
And Jemimah, I loved those two songs you picked! Chariots of Fire and Les Mis! Before I even saw your post those two came to mind and I almost used them (I was thinking of I Dreamed a Dream thought)
Anyway, I'm glad someone used them.
Wow! Really surprised (and pleased) at the participation! Can't wait for next Monday's Challenge... you guys are gonna love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm checking out y'all's picks now, they're looking really cool!
Had a great time at Barnes and Noble using the free wi-fi to listen to and comment on all of your picks. Great job, guys! You all have great musical taste! Stick around for next week!
DeleteAlright...I know I'm late. But Mongoo has been BEGGING me to comment. I know not why dear friend.
ReplyDeleteOK, so A song that makes me happy... "Beautiful You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3envv1PdyU
A song that makes me sad... "Love is Gone" I know it's a muppet song, but I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42CW7NEN_fs
A song that makes me feel excited .... ANYTHING STAR WARS!
A song that makes me embarrassed. Well...NO. Icky. NO.
And btw "You "compliment" each other wonderfully, if by "compliment" you mean "I drive Payton crazy and manipulate her." JK! But you two do make quite the duo." --That is the understatement of the year. Hahaha!
You know perfectly well! I wanted to see what you would say for #4..... I can tell you want me to tell them for you, let me just find a link to a video with the lyrics....
DeleteI knew it! I knew there was going to be a Muppets one! :-D I clicked away from the tab that was playing "Love is Gone", and when I came back to it, (around 2:20) I was shocked! There was some old dude standing behind her and singing! Then I remembered what story this is from. *facepalm*
Oh! One of you showed me "Beautiful You" before. It's a nice song.
DeleteOkay, if that Muppets song make you sad... then something is wrong with you. That one should be in the "embarrassing" category. XD Her voice was... well, in my opinion, unbearable. :P
Yes! I would've posted Star Wars myself, because it does the same for me, but Star Wars music almost always deserves it's own post (plus I wasn't gonna do Star Wars twice).
Payton. You must fill out the fourth category. No wait! We already did... Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing On Rainbows! It's her favorite! She just pretends to not like it because she's embarrassed.
If we're wrong, feel free to correct us by posting a different song... otherwise, we'll just have to assume that I'm correct. ;)
Mongoo, NO!!! I will seriously not speak to you for a week if you do!
DeleteThe "old guy" is the saddest part!! But yeah, muppets had to be in there somewhere.
Jonny,
Oh come on! It's a beautiful song. Yes, her voice isn't the greatest...but I still love it! No embarrassment there!
YAY! I love Star Wars...my sisters do too, so that's great! I get to hear the music a lot.
Hahaha! NO. I HATE that song! But here are two songs that I LOVE which are reallllllly embarrassing...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liKspJzLLg0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku3UZSDB93c
Sorry about the quality...I couldn't find any better videos.
I couldn't see the beauty in it. And that's saying a lot, for a guy who likes music from practically every genre. XD
DeleteJohn Williams is unbeatable.
Oh, come on. Admit it. You love PFUDOR.
Those... other songs... O_O Get me a gun... and a spork... the gun to shoot out my ears and the spork to pluck out my eyes...
Payton,
DeleteMwahahahahahahaha!
XD "Udder chaos" made me laugh so hard I was shaking! XD As to the second one.... the face at 0:45 was the face I was making exactly!
Jonny,
John Williams is truly amazing, but I think Howard Shore is better.
Howard Shore's music for the LotR and Hobbit movies is amazing, but he can never surpass the master of movie soundtracks.
DeleteTo each his own. :-)
DeleteYup. To each his own...that means I still love the upside down show!! And all their crazy songs! Hahahaha! "Udder chaos" is GREAT! Gracie and I were just now trying to imitate their dance moves! We used to stay up until midnight to watch those guys! Hahahaha! I would still watch them if we had cable...
Delete(Btw, I'm sending you a gun and spork in the mail. One who doesn't appreciate such wonderful music and dancing should not have the honor of possessing ears and eyes...)
Hmmm....I don't know which I like better! they are both wonderful... (and I'm afraid certain friends might never forgive me if I don't agree with them...)
Wow. Thanks. What kind of gun is it?
DeleteSee? I'm much more forgiving than Mongoo.
Ha! You probably are! :-D
DeleteDon't worry Payton, if you disagree with me, I'll forgive you. Probably. :-P
