The soundtrack for Thor: the Dark World has got to be one of the best movie soundtracks out there, due to the sheer weight of emotion it carries. Seriously, it makes me want to cry sometimes! Ew, sorry, I did not mean to sound so fangirlish...

Battle at the Pyramid

Epic title matches epic music. In case you didn't know already, David Arnold did a magnificent job on the Stargate soundtrack. Listen for yourself!

Mythos, Purity: Icarus

Epiiiic. Mythos is some kind of band/composer (haven't researched them yet) and Purity is one of heir albums. Icarus came on Pandora the other day while I was working with my older bro, and let me just say, it was awesome. Still is. Let me know what you think.

TSFH: Strength of a Thousand Men

This is one of those pieces that gave me chills the first time I heard it. One thing I really like about it is that the beginning suggests a rising evil, and the second half suggests that the evil has been defeated by good.

Rohan VERSES Gondor

Roundtable Rival!

Whoa! I was recently introduced to Lindsey Stirling's album Shatter Me (thanks Mongoo!), and I must say: it is awesome. Roundtable Rival is my favorite song in the album so far, due to some epic violin playing! Listen for yourself!

Something about it makes me want to fight a war out on an alien frontier with a rag-tag band of freedom fighters and speeder-bike cowboys. At least, that's what this music brings to my mind...

The Lost World

This soundtrack oozes anticipation, magnitude, and importance. It sounds like history is being made, or like you're arriving at a magnificent castle, or an armada is setting sail, or a special mission is getting underway, or an experimental new spaceship is preparing for launch, or reinforcements have just saved the day, or you've just crested a hill overlooking a scene of grandeur.

Whatever the case, John Williams has managed once again to captivate my imagination. What do you imagine when you hear this soundtrack?

Ricochet Love

A really epic song by our beloved Waterflame. This song doesn't just float my boat: it makes my boat hover about three feet out of the water; that's how much I like it.

It may sound a bit "beaty" at first, but it gets really good about a minute in... and gets even better at 2:20 and onward. Do yourself a favor and listen!

The Imposible Dream

Haha! This song is from Man of La Mancha, a musical adapted from the tale of Don Quixote. In this song, Don Quixote explains his quest and the reasons behind it.
This version is performed by the prestigious Andre Rieu and the Platin Tenors.
I still can't decide which word describes this song better: epic or hilarious! I'm sure both work fine. ;)

Savage Opress

No Monday Music Challenge today, I'm afraid. Due to a bunch of stuff going on in my life right now, I won't be posting much. In fact, I won't be on the internet much at all. I'll still try to get at least two posts done per week, though. :)

Today we have the theme Kevin Kiner composed for the character Savage Opress: probably one of the biggest, strongest, and toughest villains from the Clone Wars show. The theme really matches Opress' character, especially his hard and fast fighting style.

It was especially epic to hear while Opress and Maul were dueling Obi-Wan Kenobi and Adi Gallia on Florrum:

"We're pirates... we don't even know what that means!"

Music Request: I See Fire + My Dear Frodo

Today we have 2 music requests from Tabby Hollowell.

I LOVE the music for I See Fire, but HATE the voices. I'm sorry. But what irks me the most about it is the third and fourth lines of the song:

"And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke
Keep watching over Durin's sons"

Does that bug anyone else? Am I the only one? They should've said "Durin's FOLK" and they could've at least made the lyrics rhyme! But nooooo...

Come on, seriously. Put a little effort into these things, people.

Okay, so onto My Dear Frodo...

Very nice. I like it. Especially the ending, with the Thorin-esque theme. I love that theme.

Day 4: Man of Steel: Battle for Krypton

I cannot, for the life of me, find this soundtrack anywhere on youtube. Which is a huge disappointment, as it is very epic. You'll see what I mean when you watch the clip.

Anyway, this goes really good with what I'm writing for NaNo (sci-fi and historical fiction, both featuring large-scale battles with high stakes), and really gives me a feel for the subject. It sets the mood perfectly.

I'm almost glad that I can't find a soundtrack-only version of this clip... I'm not sure it'd be as good without all the epic spaceship pew-pew. X3

Day 1: Pacific Rim Main Theme

Yeah, yeah, I've posted it before... but only because I love it so darn much!

This is my go-to soundtrack. Whether I'm doing dishes, cleaning the house, or doing NaNoWriMo, this soundtrack keeps me motivated ad energized. I've said before that it's an elixir. It is. It totally pumps me every time I hear it! And that's exactly what I want, going into Camp NaNoWriMo. :)

The Breach

I can't tell you how much I love the pacing of this soundtrack! Calm and almost serene at the beginning with that under-watery music, and then the true importance of the situation dawns on you, building up tension for the huge release at the end... It went perfectly with the ending of Pacific Rim, where it plays. Guys, this is one of my favorite movies for a reason...

The sound effects at the ending scene went with the music perfectly. I especially liked when ____ _____'s ____ ____ went _______ and those _____ were ____ _____... So epic!

Music Request: Misty Mountains by Dwarf cast and Richard Armitage

Cassie Kwant used the music suggestion form to request this song: Misty Mountains, as performed by the Dwarf cast of The Hobbit and Richard Armitage.

The last music request was for the Song of the Lonely Mountain sung by Neil Finn, and as you remember, I specifically said:

"To be honest, I prefer the version of this song that is sung by Thorin and company."

So I find it pleasing, yet oddly convenient, that this was the next song to be requested. Coincidence? I think not!

Escape from Naboo!

John Williams really outdid himself when he composed the soundtrack for the Star Wars Prequels. This particular piece was used in Episode 1 when Queen Amidala escapes Naboo with her Jedi protectors. They manage to break through the Trade Federation blockade, but only because R2-D2 was able to repair their deflector shield generators in time.
This music was used again in Episode 2, when the Clone troopers made their dramatic and action-packed entrance to save the Jedi from the execution arena on Geonosis.
It was used yet a third time in Episode 3, when General Grievous' flagship Invisible Hand plummeted towards Coruscant after being badly damaged by several broadsides from the Venator-class Star Destroyer Guarlara.

I like this music because it gives a sense of speed, urgency, and danger. I really like it, and can imagine so many different scenarios where this music would fit. I usually imagine either a WW2 air-battle, or a two medieval galleons fighting each other while going down a massive waterfall.

My Favorite Soundtrack Ever

This is my favorite soundtrack of all time.

I came across it during a time when my life was really starting to pick up, and it helped me control my nervousness during my first debate tournament, so that might be part of why I like it so much.

You can sense action, power, direction, confidence, purpose, honor, anticipation, tension, beauty... everything I like in my music. Everything.

I really don't know what else to say. I just love this so much. And sometimes I feel so alone in liking it. As if I'm the only one of my friends who enjoys it. Which is a depressing feeling, not some expression of hipster pride. I wish my friends liked this as much as I do.

Aside from the repetition at the ending, this is, in my opinion, perfect. It's perfect! I love it! It's my favorite! There's nothing else I can say! Listen to it, all the way through. Don't stop it after the first few notes, just because it seems like it's "not your cup of tea." Do yourself a favor and listen through it to the very end. Do it!

Music Request: Song of the Lonely Mountain (Neil Finn)

To be honest, I prefer the version of this song that is sung by Thorin and company. Neil Finn's voice isn't the best for this song in my opinion, but it fits well if you imagine that it's Fili who's doing the singing.
I do like how the drums, lyrics, and background vocals draw you in and get you emotionally connected to the song (and the Dwarve's quest), while simultaneously painting a pretty cool picture of Dwarven culture (especially with those lines "Some folk we never forget. Some kind we never forgive. Haven't seen the back of us yet. We'll fight as long as we live.").
